School Newsletter 3-11-21

Calendar Reminders: Tomorrow, Friday 3/12, we will dismiss students at 11:15.  Please make sure students know who will be picking them up or if they should go to extended care. No hot lunch will be served due to the early dismissal, so if students are staying for extended care services, they need to bring a lunch. Friday is the last day of trimester 2.  Report cards will be sent home next week.

Students may wear green and be out of uniform on Wednesday, March 17, in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.

Friday, March 19, will be our regular monthly out of uniform day for charity.  All proceeds will be sent to Catholic Relief Services: Operation Rice Bowl.

THANK YOU! MERCI! GRACIAS! We’d like to thank the school board for the addition of water bottle filler stations in the building. The board was able to secure and install the stations on each floor. We are grateful for the generosity of our parents.  Without such support, we couldn’t have done this for the students.

Confirmation

Congratulations to our Confirmandi!  They will be making their Confirmation on Saturday. Families will get a link to live stream the event. We are very proud of their accomplishments and their choice to become full members of the Catholic Church.  We wish them well on their spiritual journey and will be praying for them. Please keep them in your prayers as well.

University of Chicago Survey

We are urging parents to please complete the survey hosted by the University of Chicago.  This survey will help St. Gerald plan the changes and improvements for the next school year.  We hope to get at least 50% of our parents to complete the survey by March 19. The deadline has been pushed up one week due to schools’ different spring breaks.  If we can reach at least 50%, we will have a free out of uniform day on April 1.

Spring Break Travel

The Archdiocese Office of Catholic Schools is asking families not to travel during spring break. They do not have plans for schools to learn remotely after break, citing different spring break dates.  If students travel out of state during spring break, they are required to quarantine for 10 days upon return to Illinois.  Quarantine begins the day after a student is back home from travel and ends 10 days later, provided the student has no COVID symptoms.  They have recommended that parents check the city of Chicago travel advisory website to find out which states are banned from travel.

QUARANTINE CLARIFICATIONS – Jan. 20, 2021

• A quarantine of 10 days is required for any/all domestic travel (i.e. travel outside of the state of Illinois)
  • Quarantine is required regardless of whether or not there is a negative test result, and no matter how much time is spent in another state.
  • Quarantine starts the day after return home.
• International travel quarantine remains 14 days.
• Close exposure quarantines remain 14-days at the recommendation of all departments of public health in those jurisdictions in which the Archdiocese operates and our own medical advisors.

2021-2022 School Calendar

The tentative school calendar has been added to the school website. There are 2 versions; both are drafts.  The school calendar will not be finalized until the Archdiocese Office of Catholic Schools approves what has been submitted.  As we can schedule events, we will update the user-friendly version of the calendar. Please check it frequently for new content.  You will find both versions on our website: https://school.stgerald.com. Go to the FOR PARENTS tab and open the page. At the bottom on the left side, you will see TENTATIVE SCHOOL CALENDAR.

Re-Registration 2021-2022

Re-Registration is now open in Power School.  Please register by March 15 to insure your spot in one of our homerooms next year.  The current re-registration fee is $25.  After April 1, the registration fee will go up to $50 to coincide with public registration. Anyone who has already registered a child will see the $25 fee in Smart Tuition. A user guide can be accessed through last week’s newsletter. If you are registering more than 1 child, please begin with the oldest child. Check the left-hand corner under the Power School name for tabs with your children’s names on them. When you select the tab of a sibling you can re-register them.
